Post DIY Rubbish Removal Options

DIY junk

You may have decided to go it alone and attempt your own DIY project in your home or garden. If you have, chances are that you’ll find yourself with a mountain of rubbish to get rid of afterwards.

If you are going it alone, then let’s face it, it’s all too tempting to just dump your old fixtures and fittings somewhere convenient so that you’ve got more time available to complete your project. Typically, your back garden, front garden or garage (if you have one) are the most likely candidates. We’ve all driven past houses with old kitchens and bathrooms dumped in the front garden but at some stage, it’s all going to have to go. Astonishingly, if you leave your rubbish there for too long, you can even be prosecuted for fly-tipping on your own land!

Dolphins on our doorstep!

Dolphin sightings are surprisingly frequent during the summer months off the East Sussex coast, and there has been a surge of sightings from Newhaven recently.

In the video below, what looks like at least a dozen dolphins were filmed not far off the coast by YouTube user Stuart Smith. As you can see, there are also a couple of people on jetskis following the pod trying to get a closer look. The white cliffs can be seen in the background before the dolphins finally dive, bringing the video to an end.

Plastic bricks made from used water bottles

What the plastic bricks look likeByBlocks image used with kind permission from ByFusion

We often write articles about plastic waste – The reason for this is that plastic is the biggest culprit when it comes to waste production; we throw away more plastic than any other material. Not only this, it also accounts for around 90% of all the waste that bobs around in our seas and oceans. The 3rd worrying factor is that it can take hundreds of years to biodegrade, making it a serious problem for future generations to deal with as well.

The Ocean’s Plastic Diet: The Impact of a Human Habit

whale plastc pollution

Unless you have been living under a rock (and not one anywhere near the sea), you will have some kind of awareness of the plastic crisis currently swamping the world’s oceans. Single-use plastics, such as bottles, bags and food packages, have been in use for a relatively short time; we have only been using them for around 50 years. During that short time, the human race has managed to choke the world’s oceans with waste plastic to such an extent that the marine life across the globe is in serious peril.

De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill – A Brief History

De La Warr Pavilion Bexhill, East Sussex

The De La Warr Pavilion is probably Bexhill’s most iconic building. It was built as a result of an architectural competition that was initiated by Herbrand Sackville, the 9th Earl De La Warr. As a result, the building also inherited his name, as (we assume) did Herbrand Walk, in nearby Cooden.

Herbrand Sackville was the Mayor of Bexhill and managed to persuade the council to develop the site as a public building. In order for the project to go ahead, it would, of course, need an architect. So, in February of 1934, a competition to design the new building was announced in the Architects’ Journal which would be run by the Royal Institute of British Architects.

Food wasted and thrown in the bin

The western world suffers from a bit of a waste problem. Our planet has put up a good fight and has appeared to be extremely resilient to the strains put upon it by us, its inhabitants. But now, as we are becoming increasingly aware, the planet we live on is struggling to keep up.

Our Plastic Addiction: The Importance of Recycling and Plastic Use Reduction

Our addiction to plastic is destroying marine life and killing fish

Rubbish is a part of all of our lives. Like it or not, we create waste on a daily basis, and even though we are more aware of the environmental cost of our waste than ever, we are still, on the whole, pretty good at ignoring it. Our methods of waste management are becoming more conscious and more sophisticated every year, but for a real environmental change, we all need to be a little better when it comes to dealing with our day-to-day domestic waste.

Here at Skip Hire Info, we are striving to make the world a little cleaner and a little more aware of the impact that our rubbish has on the planet. But, we can’t do it alone; we need you to help us build a community that makes better choices, through awareness, new habits and education.
