Airbourne returns from Thursday 15th to Sunday 18th August 2024

Updated 29th January 2024 – We’re delighted to let you know that Airbourne 2024 is happening once again this year

2024 marks yet another milestone for Airbourne as it celebrates its 30th year. As usual, the event and takes place over a four-day period from Thursday 15th August to Sunday 18th August 2024.

Unlike many other airshows, one of the best things about the Eastbourne Airshow is that you can watch the air display completely free. One of the prime viewing spots is right in the thick of things at Eastbourne Seafront. As always, this event is extremely popular so expect to be part of a large crowd! If you don’t want to be in the thick of it, there are plenty of opportunities to view from further afield – The air display line stretches a colossal 2 miles so anywhere within a mile radius of Eastbourne’s seafront will still give you a great vantage point.

The RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch 2024

It’s that time of the year again and, if you live in East Sussex, the RSPB wants your help. It’ll only take an hour of your time and will provide valuable data for the RSPB’s nationwide study in 2024.

The first Big Garden Birdwatch was held in 1979, and ever since, the RSPB has conducted this survey each year. Its purpose is to monitor the trends in bird populations and identify which species are flourishing in our gardens and which ones are on the decline. Last year, over half a million people took part so why not add your name for 2024?

Ovenden’s Mill (The Polegate Windmill)

It’s been a while since we’ve penned an article about some of the unique features that grace our East Sussex landscape so today we thought turn our attention to one particular such feature in Polegate. Ovenden’s Mill (aka the Polegate windmill) is a Grade II listed historic windmill that was built in 1817. It operated as a mill right up until the early 1900s and produced flour for the local community. It’s 70 feet tall and has a diameter of 22 feet at the base. Ovenden’s Mill is located on a hilltop (as many windmill are) and offers panoramic views of the surrounding Sussex countryside.
