As you’re probably all aware by now here at Skip Hire Info we’re passionate about our environment and write many blogs to raise awareness about recycling and sea life conservation so you can imagine our excitement about this:
Dolphins on our doorstep!
Dolphin sightings are surprisingly frequent during the summer months off the East Sussex coast, and there has been a surge of sightings from Newhaven recently.
In the video below, what looks like at least a dozen dolphins were filmed not far off the coast by YouTube user Stuart Smith. As you can see, there are also a couple of people on jetskis following the pod trying to get a closer look. The white cliffs can be seen in the background before the dolphins finally dive, bringing the video to an end.

There are also many other sightings right along much of the South Coast all the way from Dungeness to Southampton. If you want to see where and when these sightings occurred, the Seawatch Foundation has a great page that lists the types of marine life, numbers, locations and dates of the sightings.
Brighton is also a magnet for dolphin spotting and there have been a large number of these over recent years, so much so, there’s now a Brighton Dolphin Project page on Facebook, and they’d love to hear if you’ve spotted any recently, especially if you have photos to accompany your sighting. Of course, it’s not just dolphins that frequent our coastal waters, you may also spot seahorses, porpoises and rays.
As well as dolphins, grey seals are also a fairly common sight and we’ve spotted these on numerous occasions only a couple of hundred feet away from the shoreline near Bexhill, not far from Hastings, especially at high-tide.
In a recent post on 1st July 2018, MarineLife research surveyors Tom Forster and Helen Swift were delighted to spot a male grey seal in the area but were extremely upset to see that it had plastic packaging around its neck; a sight that is sadly becoming more and more familiar these days.
