Skip Hire Info provides a comprehensive range of waste management solutions. Although we hire out large RoRo (Roll on/off) containers and provide a convenient caged lorry rubbish clearance service, our most popular service by far is the hiring of skips to Sussex residents.
Here’s a brief overview about why hiring a skip could save you time and money and also prove to be easiest and most environmentally ethical way to clear all your household rubbish, garden waste and building rubble… all in one go.
It’s Convenient
When you hire one of our skips, we’ll deliver it to you promptly and we’ll also collect it at a time that’s convenient for you. If it’s going to be located on a public road, we’ll also be able to arrange your skip permit in most situations. If you have space on your own land (a driveway for example), you won’t even need to worry about a permit.
What about the local tip?
Whilst you can take most of your waste items to your local council tip for free, this can be a real chore if you’ve got a lot of dirty, heavy waste to get rid of. With one of our skips, there’s no need for you to keep loading up your car and driving it to your local landfill site, unloading and separating your waste, before driving back home and repeating the tiring and messy process over and over again.
The only thing you need to do is put everything in the skip, all in your own time. This, of course, assumes that your local public rubbish tip isn’t that far away; if it’s quite a drive to get there it makes matters even worse. Who wants to spend their day off stuck in traffic with the prospect of another queue when they arrive at the dump?
If you’re trying to bag up garden soil or rubble, then attempting to squeeze as much into your car as possible, you should also consider the weight your car will be carrying as you’ll be in trouble if you don’t.
Cars are for people, not heavy rubbish
OK, maybe cars are for shopping and pets too, but you get our drift. It’s surprisingly easy to exceed the legal weight limit in a car as the suspension isn’t designed for heavy loads. Try and cram too much in, and expect to see blue flashing lights in your rearview mirror – Not to mention any damage you may do to your car’s suspension.
It’s also worth noting that our 6-yard skips (4.6 cubic metres) can hold a full load of the really heavy stuff such as soil, clay and hardcore. These skips can hold the equivalent of a whopping 60 bin liners worth of everyday rubbish so, if you’re bagging up the heavy stuff, just imagine how many trips you’d have to make to the local rubbish tip in your car!
Local refuse depot opening hours
With a skip, you don’t have to worry about the opening hours of your council’s recycling centre so there’s no need to try and get everything done in a day or waste a weekend queuing with everybody else. Most of us have experienced that sinking feeling when we arrive at the dump, only to find that the queue to get in stretches back around the corner.
We’ve got our gloves handy and are ready to go but are thwarted by what seems like a lifetime’s wait to even get under the height barrier. Couple this with all the slugs, snails and spiders that are now contemplating setting up a new home in the back of our formally nice, clean car and, well, the day starts to look a whole lot less productive than it did a few moments before. Add to this the fact that this is probably only your first trip of several, and the day’s pretty much gone already. You should also factor in the time it’ll take to sweep out or hoover your car afterwards, together with the obligatory change of clothes you’ll almost certainly need afterwards.
What your car might look like after a trip to the local rubbish tip!
Do you plan to arrive at 8am, midday or 3.30pm? It’s a tough call. In late summer, if you’ve been out in your garden the day before and are prepping it for the oncoming winter months, you may think that arriving at the tip first thing the next morning will get you in straight away… Think again! If you’ve devised this cunning strategy to beat the queues, it’s quite likely that lots of other people have as well. How about half an hour before closing time instead? Well, your tip rivals have probably thought of that as well and are already ahead of you when you arrive. With a skip, there’s no need to worry about drawing up a cunning strategy that’s akin to planning a successful bank heist; simply grab your waste, walk a few paces to the skip and you’re good to go for round 2.
Economics 101
Hiring a skip from us is probably a much cheaper option than you may think, with our prices starting from just £140+VAT.
When you take into account the amount of time you’ll save by using a skip (and as they say “Time is Money!”) plus the fuel saved by not having to keep driving back and forth to the landfill site, or indeed the money it would cost to rent and fuel a van, you can see just how convenient and cost-effective hiring a skip can be. With a variety of different sizes of skips available to rent you can ensure you get the appropriate size and make sure you only pay for what you need.
How long can I keep my skip for?
Once delivered, you can usually keep your skip for up to 2 weeks. All you have to do is pick up the phone and call us when you want it gone and we’ll arrange a convenient time for collection. If you want the skip gone sooner, no problem, we can do that as well. We also offer an uber convenient ‘Wait and Load’ service as well.
What is Wait and Load?
If it’s not convenient to have one of our skips for several days, it’s worth considering our highly practical Wait and Load service. If you’ve already got your waste ready to go and want it shifted fast, this service will be ideal for you.
First, contact us to book your skip for a time that’s good for you. Our driver will then turn up at the allocated time, set the skip down and wait whilst you load it up. A whole skip load of your unwanted waste will then be out of your hair within the space of an hour.
Recycling – An environmentally friendly option
Unlike a trip to your local council’s recycling centre, there’s no need to worry about sorting your waste if you’ve hired a skip – we’ll do it for you. You’re free to mix soil, rubble, wood, plastic etc. in your skip. Just throw it all in, and we’ll take care of separating it when it gets back to our Sussex depot. It’s in our interest to sort your waste for recycling for several reasons. As a licenced Sussex waste carrier, we’re responsible for providing clean, ethical (and of course legal) solutions when dealing with the waste we receive. To that end, we compartmentalise all the waste and sell the majority of it on for recycling – We can typically recycle around 90% of the contents of an average skip.
Keep your building and garden projects tidier and safer
If you’ve got a building or landscaping project planned, hiring a skip will allow you to tidy up your work area as you go. Keeping your work site tidy will reduce the risk of accidents from tripping, and also make it much easier to work without moving stuff out of your way or having to keep walking around it if it’s in your way. You don’t need to have discarded materials lying around until you’ve finished and then deal with clearing it all when you find a convenient time. You don’t have to stop what you’re doing to take a trip to the waste disposal site just to clear some space or concern yourself with clearing your work area bit by bit as you go. In other words, hiring a skip is safer, easier and far tidier.
Once you’ve finished your project you can still use the skip for any other bits and bobs you may have lying about at home. If there’s still some space left over, why not nip up to the loft or have a quick rummage through your garage if you have one, and free up some more space?
Why not give your home or garden a spring clean? Take the opportunity to clear any old junk that is simply gathering dust and taking up space. Everyone has something useless taking up space somewhere in the home that you just never seem to get around to disposing of. Seize the opportunity to have a good old fashioned clear out.
Summary – Save yourself time and a lot of hard work
As we touched on earlier, you’ll not only save yourself a ton of time by not having to drive to the tip, you’ll also fit much more in a skip than in the boot of a car. The same amount of waste would require several trips in a car or van whereas with a skip, you can fit it all in one load and let us dispose of it for you, safe in the knowledge that as fully registered waste handlers, we’ll dispose of or recycle all of your rubbish in a professional and environmentally conscious way. As well as the time you’ll save by using a skip, you’ll also save yourself a considerable amount of effort as you only need to handle everything once as opposed to loading, sorting and unloading.
